Air Force Fitness Test Scores – Under Age 25 – Male & Female

The Air Force released new physical fitness assessment guidelines. Airmen now have the option to “choose their own adventure” when taking their AF PT Test. Men and women still have different scoring standards. However, PT test requirements are now broken into nine age groups of five years each, instead of the previous 10-year age groups. This gives those who are testing a little more leniency. After all, it’s not as easy for a 49-year-old to perform the same fitness standards as a 40-year-old.

In addition to the new age groups, there are new test activities you can choose to take. The previous test called for the waist measurement (which is no longer required), along with a timed 1.5-mile run, one minute of pushups, and one minute of situps. Airmen can still perform these physical activities, but they also have the option of performing alternative tests.

These are the new Air Force PT test options:

  • Cardio Test: 1.5-mile run or 20-meter HAMR (high aerobic multi-shuttle run)
  • Strength Test: Push-ups or hand-release push-ups
  • Core Strength / Endurance Test: Sit-ups, cross-legged reverse crunches, or forearm planks

Each Airman must choose one activity from each of the three tests. The timed 1.5-mile run, the pushups, and the situps all follow the previous rules. The HAMR requires members to run 20-meter shuttles to the rhythm of a timed beep. The test continues until the member fails to cross the 20-meter mark for three consecutive beeps. Members have two minutes to complete as many hand-release (HR) pushups as possible, one minute to perform as many cross-legged reverse crunches as possible, or a timed duration for the forearm planks, maxing out at 3:35 for males under age 25, with decreasing durations for max points for those in different age groups.

Air Force PT Test Passing Requirements

The test scores are broken down as follows:

  • Cardio Test: 60 points
  • Strength Test: 20 points
  • Core Strength / Endurance Test: 20 points

To pass, you must score a combined minimum of 75 points across all three tests, while scoring at least the minimum requirement on each test.

Your total score will fall into one of these three ranges:

  • Excellent: 90 or more total points
  • Satisfactory: 75-89.9 total points
  • Unsatisfactory: less than 75 total points.

Failing to pass the PT test will place the Airman on a watch list, with the possibility of being separated from the Air Force if the member fails too many tests. You can see the full guidelines in DAFMAN 36-2905.
