Air Force Fitness Test Scores – Ages 55-59 – Male & Female

The Air Force fitness assessment rules have been updated. There are three major changes from the previous test: the waist measurement has been removed, the age groups are now divided into five-year groupings instead of ten-year groupings, and Airmen now have the option of taking alternate physical activities in lieu of the standard 1.5-mile run, timed pushups, and timed situps.

Here are your PT test options for each of the three categories. Airmen must choose one event from each category:

  • Cardio Test: 1.5-mile run or 20-meter HAMR (high aerobic multi-shuttle run)
  • Strength Test: Push-ups or hand-release push-ups
  • Core Strength / Endurance Test: Sit-ups, cross-legged reverse crunches, or forearm planks

There are no major changes, other than scoring, to the 1.5-mile run, timed push-ups, or timed sit-ups. But there are new test options for each of these cateogies.

The HAMR is a timed 20-meter shuttle run. Participants run shuttles to the pace of a prerecorded beep. You must complete as many shuttles as possible in the amount of time provided. The test ends when the member fails to complete three consecutive shuttles before the beep sounds.

Airmen have two minutes to complete as many hand-release pushups or cross-legged reverse crunches as they can. The forearm plank is scored based on the duration of the hold.

Air Force PT Test Passing Requirements

As with the previous test, the run is worth 60% of your total score. However, because there is no waist measurement, those points have been allocated to the Strength and Endurance portions of the test, with each being worth 20% of your score. Here is how the test scoring breaks down:

  • Cardio Test: 60 points
  • Strength Test: 20 points
  • Core Strength / Endurance Test: 20 points

You must score 75 points or more to pass the PT test, while also scoring at least the minimum in each category.

Your number of points will determine which score range you achieve:

  • Excellent: 90 or more total points
  • Satisfactory: 75-89.9 total points
  • Unsatisfactory: less than 75 total points.

Scoring less than 75 points is an Unsatisfactory score and is a test failure. Scoring Unsatisfactory on multiple tests may result in administrative action, possibly including dismissal from the Air Force. More details for the Air Force PT test are found in DAFMAN 36-2905.
